The Bauchi zone of the union comprises universities in Plateau, Bauchi, and Gombe States. Doncir went on to describe the current funding structure for the education sector as grossly abysmal and highlighted that the poor funding has been a part of ASUU’s struggle.
The call for increased funding is aimed at improving the quality of education and research in universities, which is crucial to the development of the country.
“The commitment of governments to the funding of education has been very disappointing.
“For example from 2010 till date, budgetary allocation to education has not reached 10 percent in any one year.
“In 2024 it is 6.39 percent. Is this figure capable of renewing hope in education?
”Consequently, efforts to address the shortage of lecture rooms and theatres, inadequate hostels and office accommodation, poor laboratories, studios, workshops, and other utilities have been frustrated, ”he said.
