Edo Queens finished the championship unbeaten, coasting through the group stages, defeating Inter FC in the Semi-finals, and trouncing Ainonvi FC of Benin Republic 3-0 to emerge champions.
In a statement, Obaseki hailed the team for their doggedness, commending their brilliant play, hard work, and commitment.
He said, “I congratulate our darling ladies for their superlative performance, emerging champions of the CAF Women’s League WAFU qualifier champions. They gave a good account of themselves and have kept to their promise of making us proud.
“Over the past eight years, we have committed to raising the bar in ensuring equal pay with their male counterparts to serve as motivation. They have proven that we didn’t make the wrong decision. This is their first sub-continental championship and they have put up a good showing. It is indeed a sign of greater things to come.”
Obaseki added, “I congratulate the team for their well-deserved victory. I urge them to continue with the brilliant form and proceed to replicate their impressive feat at the CAF Women’s Champions League.”
