Professor Mala Mohammed Daura assures parents of students’ well-being after fire outbreak

On Friday, the Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University, Professor Mala Mohammed Daura, held a press briefing where he addressed the recent fire outbreak at the new female hostel of the institution.

The fire engulfed the entire hostel, which was accommodating around 195 female students.

During the briefing, Professor Daura reassured parents and guardians about the safety and well-being of their children at the university.

He stated that the university management is working diligently to provide all necessary support to the students affected by the disaster.

He also commended the transparency of the committee handling the situation, which has been providing regular updates to his office daily regarding the status of the affected students.

The committee is making efforts to ensure that the students are provided with all necessary assistance to help them overcome the trauma caused by the incident.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the safety and welfare of the students remain the top priority of the university management.

He expressed his gratitude to all those who have shown support and solidarity to the university community during this difficult time.

“The place where the students are residing now cannot be permanent accommodations, we are looking forward to permanent accommodations for them.

“We have a building that has not been completed, so we went and made a survey and proposal to the state government to complete the construction of that building,” Daura said.

During a recent press briefing, the Vice-Chancellor of a university shared that the institution has received a great deal of support from various entities following an unfortunate incident.

The support has come from government bodies, non-governmental organizations, investment companies, ministries, the state Assembly, the National Assembly, corporate organizations, and individuals.

Professor Mala Mohammed Daura expressed immense gratitude towards all these entities for their contributions in helping the university get back on its feet.

Professor Mala Mohammed Daura went on to mention that the management has provided over one thousand pieces of notebooks and writing materials to the affected students to help them continue their studies despite the setback.

Additionally, as the students have been displaced from their usual accommodations, the management has been providing them with condiments and ingredients for cooking food three times a day.

The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has provided the foodstuffs. This has helped ensure that the students’ basic needs are being met and that they are able to focus on their studies during this difficult time.

Finally, Professor Mala Mohammed Dauraexpressed his gratitude to the state fire service, security personnel, and members of the communities for their assistance and support during and after the incident.

Their contributions have been instrumental in helping the university get back to normalcy.
