He said, “No fewer than five persons sustained varying degrees of injuries Today, Wednesday, September 16, 2020, when, quite unexpectedly, the convoy of Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu stormed Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West and started attacking the campaign team of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, the PDP governorship flagbearer.

“As at now, no fewer than three vehicles in the convoy of Jegede have been badly damaged, while Jegede himself is being held hostage inside the palace of the monarch of Oba-the Oloba, by gun-totting hoodlums suspected to be agents of the governor.

“Curiously, Akeredolu was sighted inside he convoy while the attacks lasted, while police operatives in the location simply vascillated and looked on in the face of the orgies of madness.

“In the last five days too, there have been series of attacks on PDP supporters in Aiyede-Ogbese community in Akure North LGA, leading to machete and gun attacks and the burning of at least two houses of PDP members.”

But the APC in a statement by Olabode Olatunde, spokesperson for the Akeredolu campaign committee, alleged that the governor was on his campaign train to Ikare-Akoko when the PDP struck and attacked them.

He said, “Hoodlums loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede SAN, on Wednesday attacked the convoy of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), at Oba Akoko in Akoko southwest local government area of the state.

“Governor Akeredolu and the All Progressives Congress campaign train was on the way to Ikare-Akoko in continuation of the local government campaign rally when the PDP struck and attacked the convoy of the campaign train.

“The branded campaign vehicle donated to Akeredolu campaign by Ambassador Sola Iji has been set ablaze by the PDP hoodlums. The driver of the vehicle sustained bodily injury and now receiving treatment at a government hospital.”

Reason We Stopped Importation Of Food Into Nigeria – Buhari

Importation Of Food Into Nigeria

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said the Federal Government halted food importation to support agribusiness and spare Nigerians from joblessness.

He explained that practicing agriculture locally is indispensable in boosting profitability, diminishing joblessness, and neediness in the nation.

“For us to bounce back to productivity, especially in agriculture, the unemployed with many of them uneducated had to be persuaded to go into agriculture.

‘‘If we hadn’t gone back to the lands we would have been in trouble by now. That is why we virtually stopped the importation of food thereby saving jobs and foreign exchange,” the President said.

President Buhari revealed this during a virtual gathering with individuals from the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) at the State House, in Abuja,

The president likewise advocated the government’s getting to fund infrastructure, declaring that his government took advances in light of a legitimate concern for the nation to fathom the critical shortage in framework.

“We have so many challenges with infrastructure. We just have to take loans to do roads, rail, and power, so that investors will find us attractive and come here to put their money,’’ the President said after listening to a presentation by PEAC chaired by Professor Ayo Salami.

He regretted that the failure to provide the infrastructure for effective transportation deprived the country of its well-deserved status as the West African hub for Air cargo transportation and trans-shipment of goods.

On the issue of the economy, President Buhari noted the challenges posed by the “collapse of the oil market” and the decision of the government to abide by the reduced oil production quota allocated by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

“We have to accept that decision; otherwise they (Middle-East producers) can flood the market and make the product unviable. So we have cooperated with what we get. With oil, we are in a difficult situation. The politics of oil is that the less you produce, the more you earn,” he said.

The President likewise proposed the issue of the COVID-19 pandemic and how it required the ongoing government approaches as they identify with vitality (power) and fuel.

He said the Federal Government took such choices since it puts the nation above country politics.

Submit your finances and expenditures for proper auditing, presidency tells CAN

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has said that those moaning over the new Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) should better stop in light of the fact that there is no returning.

CAC said the new demonstration has come to remain in the nation in spite of the open objection that has welcomed it.

The Commission said it was just trusting that the governing body will journal it for guaranteed usage of the law.

The CAMA bill was as of late marked into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, and was remembered for his rundown of accomplishments throughout the previous one year.

The CAC Registrar-General, Alhaji Garba Abubakar, while addressing Commerce Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN) in Abuja yesterday asked why the demonstration was being contradicted by strict bodies, particularly the churches.

“They must henceforth subject their finances and expenditures for proper auditing, and copies sent to us at the CAC,” he said.

He explained further, “The new legal framework applies to all organizations registered with us; be it a religious organisation, NGO or CSO.

“Remember that they also have constitutions guiding them. The criteria to be a trustee of registered organisations are clearly spelt out in the laws establishing them.

“How is it that a registered member who qualifies to be a trustee in an organisation would not want government to know how the organisation is run? What are the responsibilities of the trustees?

“What are the responsibilities of the governing council or the board? How do you manage the affairs of the organisation? How do you use or expend the income and properties of the organisation? How do you appoint members of the governing board? These are the issues the new CAMA has come to address.”

NBA: Jigawa chapter vows to boycott conference over action against El-Rufai

eL Rufai

The choice of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to pull back its invitation to Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, as one of those to talk at its 2020 yearly gathering, has been opposed by the Jigawa State section of the association.

The NBA had at first recorded El-Rufai as one of the keynote speakers in its 2020 Annual General Meeting. In any case, following petitions against that choice, the body on Thursday pulled back its invitation to El-Rufai.

Reacting to the development in an announcement marked and delivered on Thursday by Garba Abubakar, Jigawa NBA chairman, the state chapter vowed to withdraw from the conference if the decision to withdraw the invitation earlier extended to El-Rufai was not reversed.

Abubakar said, “The Nigerian Bar Association Dutse Branch disagree with the position of National Executive Committee of the association held this (Thursday) evening in its resolve to withdraw the earlier invitation sent to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai … to participate as a guest speaker in the forthcoming Annual General Conference of the association scheduled to take place from 26th-29th of August 2020, based on frivolous allegations.

“The decision is quite unfair as the allegation against the governor has nothing to do with the NEC or NBA at large. Worse still, the governor has not been given the opportunity to defend himself on the allegations raised against him by a group within the association, before the resolution of this magnitude was reached against hi, as the NBA belongs to all.”

Noting that the Rule of Law demands that the governor be given the opportunity to defend himself, Abubakar argued, “If complaints are to be judged on their face value and without due process, similar treatment is to be given to Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who has serious allegations of abuse of human rights against him to the extent of the demolition of residential houses and place of worship without observing due process.”

Further saying “A section of the country cannot therefore take us for a ride as we all have a fair understanding of the law,” Abubakar added:

“On the strength of this, therefore, we call on the national body under President Usoro (SAN), to reverse the decision with immediate effect, else, the NBA Dutse branch will boycott the virtual annual general conference taking place in a few days to come.”

Obaseki’s huge support base causing APC to hallucinate – Osagie

support base of governor
…urges party to come clean on mass thumb printing of ballot papers in Kogi hotels

Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, has said that the “huge support base of Governor Godwin Obaseki across the three senatorial districts of the state is causing candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his handlers to hallucinate.”

Osagie who spoke to journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Friday, urged the APC “to come clean on the allegation of ongoing mass thumb printing of ballot papers by APC members in some hotels in Kogi State.”

The Governor’s aide emphasised: “We are convinced that the candidate of the APC, the party’s leaders and media handlers are suffering from hallucination, given the ease with which they allege things that do not exist. We are also convinced that the growing support base of Governor Obaseki is responsible for the poor health condition of these APC leaders.”

He added: “Two days ago, the APC said they saw a vehicle loaded with arms in Governor Obaseki’s convoy. Yesterday they said security personnel attached to the governor were involved in shooting.

“Today, Friday, they alleged that the PDP is engaged in arms proliferation. Of course we know that tomorrow, the APC will say that the PDP is procuring short-range ballistic missiles or jet bombers, and the day after, they will allege that we are procuring nuclear warheads. It takes someone who hallucinates to call a press conference and tell journalists things that exist only in the APC leaders’ heads.”

“Edo voters are earnestly waiting for September 19 to come quickly, so that they will hand Governor Obaseki and his running mate, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, another four years, to continue the good work they have been doing to enhance the wellbeing of Edo people,” Osagie stressed.

Northern lawyers to boycott NBA conference over El-Rufai’s withdrawal – MURIC

Nigerian Bar Association
Kaduna State Governor El-Rufai

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked legal practitioners of northern extraction to boycott the yearly meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over the withdrawal of the invitation reached out to Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to talk at the occasion charged for one week from now.

The NBA had expelled the name of El-Rufai from the the list of speakers over over protest from certain legal counselors who had taken steps to boycott the occasion.

Responding to the turn of events, MURIC in an announcement on Friday by Professor Ishaq Akintola said, Every little action of injustice must spark a reaction if tyranny is to be stopped in the world

“MURIC calls on all lawyers from the North to boycott NBA’s AGC in protest against this open declaration of war on Northern Kaduna. Every little action of injustice must spark a reaction if tyranny is to be stopped in the world,” Akintola said.

“NBA has crossed the red line in human relations and conflict management. No single lawyer from the North should participate in the AGC either as a resource person or as a participant unless NBA rescinds its decision to drop El-Rufai from the list of speakers. Injury to one is injury to all.

Akintola said by dropping El-Rufai, NBA has declared war on the other side in the Southern Kaduna crisis and has lost a golden chance to be part of the solution to the conflict, adding that the association has further been elected to be part of the problem.

He said, “The fact that NBA took the ill-advised step on account of a petition written by a group, Open Bar Initiative whose main fear is expressed as ‘One can be sure that he will also use the given platform to advance his conflated narrative, designed to deceive and confuse the nation on the real causes of the killings’ exposes NBA’s impatience, intolerance and self-conceit.

“Is it not better to hear him out than to lock him out? Is it not better to jaw-jaw than to war-war? The departure of the ambassador, they say, is the beginning of war.

“Was it not Jane Goodall who said, ‘Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something you don’t believe is right’? Change cannot come through rejection and exclusion.

“How justifiable is NBA’s decision to exclude Governor El-Rufai from the virtual conference when people like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo of Odi and Zaki Biam fame and Governor Nyesom Wike are among the speakers? Who bulldozed the hotels of innocent people despite court orders? Who visited unspeakable violence on political opponents? Should NBA hobnob with people linked to genocide and undemocratic practices? So why demonise El-Rufai where killers of innocent people and enemies of democracy are idolised?”
