Nollywood actress and film producer, Zainab Balogun, has shared her disbelief after being charged ₦10,000 for a single cup of green tea at a restaurant in Lagos.
The actress narrated the experience in a post on her Instagram page, explaining that she had visited the restaurant with a friend but decided to order only tea since she was not hungry. According to her, the tea was served in a pot with a large cup, and she enjoyed it without considering the cost.
However, the bill left her stunned.
“My mouth dropped so much I was hoping the people sitting next to me didn’t see that flies were catching my mouth,” she said.
“What do you mean you boiled water, put two tea bags, and it was ₦10,000? I obviously could not argue with them because I drank their tea. There’s no way to give it back. I had to pay.”
Balogun joked that she regretted not taking photos or making content to justify the expense, adding that she should have taken advantage of the restaurant ambiance like another customer who was doing a photoshoot.
“You must use your money and the space well,” she said humorously.
The actress said the incident has now taught her a valuable lesson about Lagos dining prices and the importance of being cautious before placing an order.
“But I didn’t, and that’s how I paid ₦10,000 for tea in Lagos. There’s tea at home. This will not happen again,” she said.
The lighthearted post has since sparked reactions online, with many Lagos residents agreeing that the city’s upscale restaurants can be unexpectedly pricey.
