Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has declared that results from the four local government areas in Ikwerreland were decisive in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory during the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking during a Christmas visit to Emohua LGA, Wike said Emohua, Ikwerre, Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt City produced the results that tilted the election in Tinubu’s favour at a time many politicians were afraid to openly support him.
“When the whole place was shaking and people were afraid, we came out. I told you we would win, and Ikwerreland produced the results that made Tinubu president,” Wike said.
The FCT minister warned that the Ikwerre ethnic nationality cannot be ignored, insisting the group will continue to remain relevant in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Wike’s remarks come amid renewed political tension in Rivers State following Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s reported alignment with the APC and the defection of lawmakers loyal to Wike, led by Martins Amaewhule.
Despite being a PDP member, Wike has maintained that he has no regrets supporting Tinubu in 2023.
