Osi of Egbaland Declares Support for Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi’s 2027 Ogun Governorship Bid

The Osi of Egbaland, Chief Bode Mustapha, has openly endorsed the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation and Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

Chief Mustapha made the declaration while featuring on the “Oju Abẹ” programme on Splash FM, Abeokuta, hosted by Mr. Adetunji Ayomide (Quality). He described Senator Adeola as “a performer, bridge-builder, and unifier across Ogun State.”

According to him, his support for the senator is based on performance and fairness rather than emotions or political sentiment. He recalled an encounter with a resident who expressed gratitude for a road constructed by Senator Adeola that now reaches her street, significantly improving her daily life and reducing her vehicle maintenance costs. He also highlighted the installation of solar-powered streetlights across several communities, saying the initiative has enhanced security and comfort at night.

“Good deeds should not be destroyed by sentiment. We must be fair and judge by performance. Others may also perform, but what I have seen is different from what I heard. I will support the man who has touched every senatorial district in Ogun State. I have one vote, and I will give it to YAYI,” he declared.

Speaking on the agitation for Ogun West to produce the next governor, the Osi of Egbaland noted that Yayi’s heritage places him in a unique position to unite the state, with his father from Yewa and mother from Egba.

“Has Yewa/Awori ever produced a governor? No. God has given them a capable son, father from Yewa, mother from Egba. We must show compassion and support them,” he added.

Chief Mustapha dismissed insinuations questioning the senator’s origin as political propaganda, recalling that he too once faced similar claims about his lineage before it was verified.

The Egba chief emphasized that his endorsement was not influenced by personal gain or financial inducement.

“I don’t need to talk to him personally. His works are enough communication. I did not collect any money from Yayi,” he stated.

He was also quick to clarify that his position is personal and not reflective of the stance of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.

“I am speaking as the Osi of Egba. Bode Mustapha is speaking. The Alake is the father of all; no one should drag him into politics,” he said.

On the 2027 elections, Chief Mustapha was unequivocal:

“Yayi will not contest for Senate in 2027. He will contest for Governor, and my vote is for him.”

He urged other senators from the state to continue improving the lives of their constituents, saying in Yoruba: “ki wọ́n má ṣe bí wọ́n ṣe ń ṣe lọ” (let them continue the good work).

Chief Mustapha concluded with a firm declaration of support:

“Yayi is a performer, a bridge-builder, and a unifier across Ogun State. That is why I stand by him.”
