Vice President Kashim Shettima and governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are expected in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Monday to welcome Governor Douye Diri into the ruling party officially.

Governor Diri, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally resigned his membership of the opposition party on October 15, paving the way for his defection to the APC.
According to party sources, arrangements have reached an advanced stage to ensure a grand reception for the Bayelsa governor, with APC functionaries working tirelessly to make the event a success.
The defection of Governor Diri is seen as a major political realignment in the South-South region and a significant boost for the APC ahead of future elections.
