TikTok has temporarily restricted access to its LIVE feature for users in Nigeria during late-night hours, following what the company describes as an ongoing safety investigation.
The decision was communicated through an in-app notice sent to creators on Sunday. According to multiple user reports, the restriction does not only prevent Nigerian creators from going live, but also blocks access to LIVE broadcasts originating from other regions. Streams that were fully accessible earlier in the evening suddenly became unavailable between 11pm and 5am, with affected accounts displaying a “No Access” label.
In a system alert titled “LIVE Notices” sent shortly after midnight, TikTok explained:
“TikTok LIVE Update in Nigeria: We’re temporarily limiting LIVE late at night in Nigeria as part of our investigation to ensure our platform remains safe and our community stays protected.”
The measure is expected to affect viewer engagement, creator earnings, and overall platform interaction during the restricted hours — a period when many Nigerian users typically experience peak LIVE activity.
TikTok has not disclosed the specific reason behind the investigation or how long the restriction will last.
