Lauretta Onochie, a former aide of the ex-president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed her concern that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been taken over by some unscrupulous individuals.

She has accused some agents of the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of infiltrating the APC and preventing the party from fielding candidates who have a better chance of winning elections.
Onochie, who is known for her active presence on social media, has taken to X to call for the recovery of the APC from these PDP agents.
Her comments have sparked a debate among political analysts as to the true state of the party and how it can be repositioned for future success.
Reports suggest that the APC primary election was plagued with several irregularities and discrepancies which have raised concerns among party members and the general public.
According to Onochie: “We are Progressives, for heaven’s sake! This is what happens when a few unwholesome men hijack a political party and dictate who should run, taking that role from the people.
“Why is APC bent on keeping the South South a PDP territory? Each time we have an opportunity to field a winning candidate, PDP agents in APC ensure that APC fields an inferior candidate who does not stand a chance of winning the PDP candidate. It happened in Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom.
“@OfficialAPCNg must recover our party from traders and work with core progressives in the region to give Nigerians in general and South South in particular, a decent alternative to the messed up PDP.
“At the moment, I look at the two political parties and APC is looking more like PDP than a Progressive political party.
“Restructure APC including Women. Work more with Legacy Progressives, sanction rule breakers and then watch how Honourable Nigerians would flock into the party.”
