ABUJA, Nigeria — The United States has praised Nigeria for securing 386 terrorism-related convictions, describing the development as a major milestone in strengthening accountability and the rule of law.

In an official statement, U.S. authorities said the convictions reflect Nigeria’s increasing commitment to prosecuting terrorism cases through legal and institutional frameworks.
Nigeria’s Counterterrorism Efforts Gain Recognition
The convictions are part of Nigeria’s broader efforts to combat insurgency, particularly threats posed by groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.
According to the U.S., the successful prosecution of hundreds of terrorism suspects signals progress in ensuring accountability and justice for victims of violent extremism.
US Urges Continued Judicial Reforms

“Maintaining momentum in judicial reforms is critical to reinforcing public trust and enhancing long-term security,” the statement noted.

The U.S. also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria through capacity-building programs, intelligence sharing, and assistance to the judicial sector.
Analysts say continued collaboration between Nigeria and international partners could play a key role in consolidating gains in the fight against terrorism while upholding human rights standards.
