Edoba Omoregie has been appointed the 11th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), as announced on Friday by Prof. Shaibu Umaru, the Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council. Omoregie succeeds the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lillian Salami, whose tenure is set to conclude on December 1.
Omoregie, a distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law and Governance and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was selected from a competitive pool of 27 applicants for this prestigious position.
His academic credentials are noteworthy. He was born on April 5, 1969, in Benin City and is an alumnus of the University of Benin, where he earned all three of his degrees—bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral.
After being called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992, Omoregie quickly established himself in the legal profession and was awarded the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2021, a significant recognition comparable to the title of Queen’s Counsel in other jurisdictions.
His vast expertise in constitutional law positions him well to lead the university into its next chapter, focusing on academic excellence and governance.
