The owner of A1 Pure Water, which is located behind 132KVA in the Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti, has been arrested by the Ekiti State Police Command.
The arrest was made because the owner was operating unlawfully and producing unhealthy sachet water from a well.
Officials from the Ministry of Environment reported the owner to the police, and the arrest was confirmed by DSP Sunday Abutu, the Public Relations Officer of the Command.
It was revealed that the factory had been operating without the necessary permits and licenses, rendering its operations illegal.
The Ekiti State Ministry of Environment had sealed off the factory, saying the water used for the production of the sachet water was from an abandoned well.
Speaking with journalists, the leader of the team that sealed off the factory, Samuel Adebayo, explained that such unwholesome practice could cause an epidemic, hence the need for urgent action.
According to him, the water factory was found to have violated several standards and requirements set for sachet water production and poses risk to public health.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Tosin Aluko, noted that the illegal operation of A1 Pure Water represents a clear disregard for public health and safety regulations.
She explained that the closure of the water factory serves as a stern warning to other businesses operating within the state to adhere strictly to environmental regulations and standards.
