The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, has recently made a passionate appeal for calm among protesting residents of the Minna metropolis, following a protest by angry youths and women who had gathered to express their frustration over the current economic hardship they are facing in the city.

The protest, which took place on Monday, saw the protesters blocking Minna Bida Road at Kpakungu around 7.30 am, citing the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government as the root cause of their current economic plight.
They also decried the continuous hike in the price of food items and other essential needs of livelihood in the country.
The Niger Deputy Governor, while addressing the protesters, expressed the government’s awareness of the economic hardship faced by its citizens, and assured them that the state government was working tirelessly to alleviate their suffering.
Niger Deputy Governor also urged them to remain calm as modalities have been put in place to ease their hardship.
It is noteworthy that the protest was a reflection of the current prevailing economic situation in the country, with many Nigerians struggling to make ends meet due to the rising cost of living.
The government has, however, reiterated its commitment to finding a lasting solution to the problem and ensuring that citizens’ welfare remains paramount.
” Niger State Government as a matter of urgency is calling on the people of Kpagungu to remain calm as the state government is working tirelessly to cushion its citizen hardships to its barest minimum.
”We will continue to distribute palliative to the downtrodden, “he appealed.
