The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier Kingsley Uwa, has expressed concern over the growing insecurity in southern Taraba, warning that security forces will no longer tolerate actions capable of triggering violence.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ security meeting at the palace of the Chief of Ibi, Alhaji Abubakar Salihu Danbawuro, Brigadier Uwa said security agencies will now take decisive action against anyone instigating crises or obstructing peace efforts in the area.
He condemned recent incidents where individuals reportedly prevented farmers from harvesting their crops, describing the act as a “dangerous provocation” that could spark communal clashes.
Uwa reminded traditional rulers and community leaders of their responsibility to maintain peace in their domains, stressing that anyone found fueling tensions will face firm consequences.
The meeting, which brought together traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders and security agencies, focused on rising threats including the influx of criminals from neighbouring states, farmland disputes, illegal crop harvesting, and unresolved chieftaincy issues in Dampar, Tapga, Sarkin Kudu and Gidan Kiye.
