The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Yobe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this information during a press briefing where he also shared the commission’s level of preparedness for the upcoming bye and re-run elections scheduled for February 3rd, 2024.
According to Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the political parties that will be contesting in the Yobe East Senatorial by-election are the African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The participation of these parties in the Yobe East senatorial by-election is expected to make the process more competitive and ultimately more representative of the people’s choice.
“Campaigns by these parties are ongoing and, as mandated by law, must cease 24 hours before the election day, which is February 1, 2024.
“The electoral activities are planned across eight local government areas, 75 registration areas, and 993 polling units that constitute the Yobe East Senatorial constituency, plus one in Fika town”, Abdullahi said.
According to the statement made by an official, it has been revealed that a total of 4,232 ad-hoc staff have been earmarked for deployment.
These staff members will be deployed to conduct a specific task or event temporarily.
Moreover, it has been reported that the staff will be assisted by 1,339 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines that will be used for accreditation.
BVAS is a technology that is designed to verify the identity of voters using biometric data. The use of BVAS machines is expected to enhance the accuracy and transparency of the voting process.
