During the set of Colombian singer J Balvin, who had an extraterrestrial theme to his performance, complete with a gigantic UFO hovering above the stage, Smith made an unexpected entrance.
The Men In Black actor was dressed in his iconic black tuxedo and trademark shades, performing a live rendition of the classic theme song to the hit sci-fi movies.
The set ended with Smith singing in front of a giant alien head, backed up by dancers dressed in alien costumes and black suits.
Festival-goers took to social media to react to the surprising appearance. One wrote: “I love it when Will raps because he genuinely seems happy.”
Another added: “Good to see Will Smith having fun at #Coachella”
Some people were confused, however, with one writing: “Are we in a simulation?”
Men In Black was a number one hit in the UK upon its release in 1997. It was the lead single from both the film’s soundtrack and Smith’s debut solo album, Big Willie Style. It also represented his first solo single following his work with DJ Jazzy Jeff.
The film, which also came out in 1997, stars Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as Agent J and Agent K, who investigate a series of criminal incidents related to the extraterrestrial lifeforms which live in secret on Earth.
