Speaking on the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, the award-winning singer described the song as both a blessing and a burden in his decades-long music career.
According to him, while the 2004 classic opened doors and cemented his place as one of Africa’s biggest global music exports, it has also come with challenges.
“That song has been a huge blessing, and e don turn to problem join for me, you know. But like I said earlier, I’m grateful for everything.”

“African Queen” shot 2Baba to international fame, earning him multiple awards and global recognition. However, the song has long been linked to controversy, particularly claims by his former Plantashun Boiz group mate, Blackface, who has repeatedly accused him of intellectual property theft.
2Baba has consistently denied the allegations, insisting the track originated during their band days and involved collaborative contributions.
Despite the controversy, the singer says he remains thankful for the song’s impact, while urging fans to acknowledge that his catalog extends far beyond one hit.
“There are so many other songs I have that are brilliant, and many people resonate with them too,” he noted.
The song’s legacy was further solidified recently when Billboard ranked “African Queen” as the Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time.
