Atalanta have dismissed head coach Ivan Juric following a run of poor results that has left the Serie A side languishing in the bottom half of the table.
The Croatian was relieved of his duties after Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat to Sassuolo, a result that saw Atalanta slip to 13th place. The loss marked their second consecutive league defeat, coming after a promising start to the season in which they went nine games unbeaten — although seven of those ended in draws.
“Atalanta announce that Ivan Juric and his coaching staff have been relieved of their duties,” the club said in a statement on Monday.
Juric’s departure adds to a difficult managerial trajectory in recent years. He lasted less than two months during a troubled spell at AS Roma last year before moving to the Premier League with Southampton, where he resigned after the Saints became the earliest team to be relegated in league history.
The 49-year-old had taken over from Gian Piero Gasperini in the summer, following the end of Gasperini’s nine-year tenure at the Bergamo club.
Despite their struggles domestically, Atalanta have shown stronger form on the continental stage, currently sitting 16th in the Champions League standings with seven points from four matches.
The club is expected to name a replacement in the coming days.
