Adebayo Adedamola, popularly known as Fryo, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State following the successful conclusion of the party’s primary election on Tuesday in Osogbo.
The primary, held at Adolak Hall, produced Adedamola as the party’s flagbearer after he secured 919 votes out of the 957 accredited delegates. His main rival, Governor Ademola Adeleke, did not participate in the exercise, having publicly resigned from the PDP less than 24 hours before the delegates cast their votes.
A total of 20 void votes were recorded.
Announcing the results, Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee, Humphrey Abba, confirmed Adedamola’s victory, noting that the withdrawal of one of the aspirants made the process straightforward.
“Following the successful voting, I am pleased to announce that 20 void votes were recorded. The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned,” Abba declared.
Tension After Results Announcement
Minutes after the committee concluded its assignment and departed the venue, tension erupted as the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, arrived with some lawmakers and made attempts to disrupt the exercise — despite its completion.
Egbedun reportedly engaged in a heated confrontation with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who were present to monitor the process. The altercation did not affect the outcome already announced.
