Jennifer Lopez officially filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Ben Affleck, on Tuesday, as confirmed by legal documents obtained by ABC News. Representatives for both Lopez and Affleck have been contacted for further comments by ABC News.
The celebrity power couple tied the knot in a glamorous ceremony in Las Vegas back in July 2022. Lopez had announced their marriage on her website, expressing her joy with the words, “We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”
Following their Las Vegas wedding, the couple celebrated their union with a second wedding ceremony in Georgia the following month.
The pair have been linked for several decades after they dated seriously in the early 2000s. In 2003, the couple was engaged to be married but postponed their nuptials and ultimately went their separate ways.
Affleck went on to marry Jennifer Garner in 2005; they announced their separation in 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2018. The exes share three children: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12.
Lopez married her third husband, singer Marc Anthony, in 2004; they announced their split in 2011 after seven years of marriage. The former couple shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme.
Following Lopez’s breakup with her ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez in 2021, Lopez and Affleck rekindled their relationship.
Lopez told People in 2022, “It’s a beautiful love story that we got a second chance.”
After rekindling their relationship, the pair blended families, starred in commercials together and promoted each other’s work.
In 2022, while speaking to Vogue, Lopez opened up about her blended family, explaining it’s something that “needs to be handled with so much care” and adding that “it’s going really well so far.”
Earlier this year, Lopez opened up about her foray into film, saying Affleck encouraged her work.
“Ben kind of said this to me. I was like, ‘I don’t write, I don’t do this,'” Lopez said. “He said, ‘You do. You write, you direct, you produce, you do all the things. Start stepping into that. Start owning that a little bit. Start owning a little bit of who you are,'” Lopez said during a press conference of the film in February.
