The Oloro-in-Council and the people of Oro Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have halted a planned Ogboni meeting scheduled to hold in the town, citing security concerns.
In a statement issued by the Esa of Oro Kingdom, Chief Samuel Otunola, the traditional authority warned that the gathering could worsen the fragile security situation in Kwara South and must not proceed under any circumstances.
The council revealed that both the Kwara State Government and the Kwara State Police Command opposed the meeting, considering the prevailing security challenges in the senatorial district.
It further disclosed that the Ogboni Worldwide body, under the umbrella of the Aborigine Traditional Association Inc., has distanced itself from the event. In a letter addressed to the Oloro of Oro Kingdom, the association stated that it was not aware of the planned gathering.
The council urged all individuals intending to attend the meeting to desist immediately, warning that security operatives have been deployed to enforce the directive.
It added that anyone who violates the order would be arrested.
The Oloro-in-Council, however, reassured residents of Oro Kingdom of their safety, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order in the community.
