President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held an emergency meeting with Nigeria’s security chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following a troubling spike in kidnappings and violent attacks across the country.
The meeting comes less than 24 hours after Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru resigned and amid multiple abductions of schoolchildren and worshippers in Kwara, Niger, Kebbi and other states.
Led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the session had in attendance the service chiefs, the DSS Director-General Adeola Ajayi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The high-level review is expected to focus on urgent strategies to tackle the rising cases of kidnapping, rural attacks and bandit operations that have put several states under pressure in recent weeks.
